Statement: In Wild Forests I revere trees for their beauty, grace, and persistent beleaguered guardianship of the planet's well being. I spend extended periods of time walking, drawing and painting in remote wild forests of the west from California to Alaska. I sit on the ground, work in hand bound field journals with ink and paint, and spend time with these other beings who live and thrive, in spite of all that makes it harder and harder to survive as a wild thing. I explore trees as individuals; the mystery of how they disappear into the earth, the sky and each other; the other forest plants and creatures; and the fleeting illumination unique to forests. Mostly I seek to discover what might be revealed by repeatedly visiting particular trees over time. |
