Statement: I have been a 'tree person' since birth, spending my infancy under the natural tent of a weeping willow tree, and later in childhood bounding about in the tops of trees like a monkey infected with joy. For many of us, Golden Gate Park has provided an imagination of Paradise in an urban environment. I especially love the live oaks that grow there near the giant ferns, like the magical presence of Druids; their serpentine limbs are as sinuous as the unpredictable path of the Tao. The limbs of trees crisscross to form new letters that spell out meanings beyond the common words that fall so far short of what we wish we could say. |
