Statement: In 1972 I was visiting a friend in Iowa City. His family donated a portion of the family farm, called Indian Lookout, to a conservation organization. It was the place where the elderly, women and children were taken during wartime. All native trees had been cut. My friend planted thousands of native trees—wild oaks, wild cherries, wild walnuts and many original wild flowers.
My images, which I saw from my window, had been struck by lightning. The tree roots started to send out shoots. Its rebirth was the inspiration for my art piece. |
