About Arcadia 2007
More than 100 Bay area artists and Friends of the Urban Forest invite you to join us at Arcadia: Artists Celebrate Trees, an exhibition and auction to be held April 23, 2007 at California Modern Gallery in San Francisco.
Arcadia features original artwork of, or inspired by, trees. The tree theme while broad and open to varied interpretation has created beautiful, harmonious shows. Inspired by the tree theme and their appreciation of FUF, most of the more than 100 participating artists have created work especially for the event.
Arcadia is an invitational biennial event conceived by artists in 2002 as a way to make a significant contribution to San Francisco's urban ecosystem. Artists have welcomed the opportunity to transform their art into trees and enhance our city one artwork and one tree at a time.
We are pleased to welcome Janet Bishop, curator of painting and sculpture at SFMOMA, back to Arcadia. She will once again install the show and serves as chair of the Arcadia 2007 host committee.
Arcadia 2003 and 2005 celebrated our appreciation of trees in the city by bringing together the diverse visions of San Francisco's community of artists. Thanks to the generosity of San Francisco's artists, Friends of the Urban Forest was able to expand its community of neighborhood tree planters. From the Marina to the Bayview, from South of Market to the Sunset, we invested the support from Arcadia into planting, tree care and youth programs to ensure this beautiful city enjoys all the aesthetic and practical benefits of a growing urban forest.
Since 1981, FUF has planted over 40,000 trees—that's more than all the trees in Golden Gate Park and represents 40% of all the street trees in San Francisco. There is still much work left to be done, and your support of Arcadia can help ensure that FUF continues to enhance our urban forest for ourselves and generations to come.
We hope you will join us in Arcadia. Thank you for your time and generosity.
Sincerely,
