Arcadia: Artists Celebrate Trees
Monday, April 25th, 2005
6:00 to 9:00 pm
SomARTS Gallery
934 Brannan, San Francisco

The Arcadia 2005 Web site will remain available as an archive to allow interested art collectors to view and review the art offered at the auction. Many of the artists have web sites or gallery web sites with additional examples of their work. We encourage you to explore the work of all of the artists who participated in Arcadia.

The artwork on this site is of, or inspired by, trees. Inspired by the theme, and their appreciation of FUF, most of the contributing artists created work especially for Arcadia. San Francisco's artists welcomed the opportunity to transform their art into trees and enhance our city, one artwork and one tree at a time.

Arcadia 2005 was a smashing success—for the artists, the participants, and Friends of the Urban Forest. Thanks to the generosity of San Francisco's artists, FUF will once again be able to expand its community of neighborhood tree planters. From the Marina to the Bayview, from South of Market to the Sunset, FUF will invest the support from Arcadia into planting, tree care and youth programs to ensure this beautiful city enjoys all the aesthetic and practical benefits of a growing urban forest.

Thanks to everyone who participated in Arcadia 2005.

Friends of the Urban Forest San Franciscans rely on Friends of the Urban Forest to help them plant and maintain trees for a more beautiful and healthy city. Since 1981, FUF's community-based tree plantings have literally transformed the cityscape, adding nearly 40,000 trees to the streets of San Francisco - more than 40 percent of the city's street trees. We encourage all San Franciscans to become stewards of their trees and their neighborhoods, and to become advocates for a larger, healthier urban forest. Along with beauty and oxygen, trees make an important and positive impact upon our city's ecology, helping to mitigate traffic noise, offering wind protection and removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. FUF sponsors a year-round tree care program for low-income youth, offers a popular series of free walks, and conducts regular educational programming in addition to tree planting and care. Visit www.fuf.net to learn more.
