Peeler Lake was drawn from life during a Sierra backpack. My awe of the place, and my sweat and exhaustion from hauling a 40+ pound pack to high elevations, became part of the drawing. |

When I was creating this piece, I thought about the ending of winter. Gray, rainy days that are wet and mushy, providing the trees with a much-needed drink before spring. |

Qui fait rêver les oiseaux dans les arbres..."

Though I usually paint large abstract pieces that explore color, form and emotion, this painting emerged from a magical moment in a Bolinas spring garden, and took its own mysterious expression. Here's to more trees! |

Street Trees on 3rd Street |
| Medium: |
Acrylic on canvas |
| Size: |
12" x 16" |
| Statement: |
A plein air view done in several sittings along 3rd Street. I was struck by the shape and repetition of the street trees along this ripped up street and construction zone. I was wondering what life was like for a street tree and if any wildlife was using them for a home. |

Live Oak and Giant Ferns |
| Medium: |
Photograph |
| Size: |
14 1/4" x 17 1/4" |
| Statement: |
I have been a 'tree person' since birth, spending my infancy under the natural tent of a weeping willow tree, and later in childhood bounding about in the tops of trees like a monkey infected with joy. For many of us, Golden Gate Park has provided an imagination of Paradise in an urban environment. I especially love the live oaks that grow there near the giant ferns, like the magical presence of Druids; their serpentine limbs are as sinuous as the unpredictable path of the Tao. The limbs of trees crisscross to form new letters that spell out meanings beyond the common words that fall so far short of what we wish we could say. |

Strybing 2.1 |
| Medium: |
Monoprint |
| Size: |
20" x 20" |
| Statement: |
Most often my work is large scale abstract figurative painting. The Arcadia project gave me the challenge of working at a much smaller scale and with more intimate imagery. This monoprint is based on a favorite tree in the Strybing Arboretum and employs a technique I have developed over the past several years. |
